This was a challenge requiring a team to develop mobile living proposals for a future community brought together by necessity due to cyclone or flood-driven evacuation or civil unrest. A portable set of tessellated modules was designed to provide shared meeting/dining/living spaces as well as an emergency mode that interlocks for maximum weather protection. Designers Jasmine Kassulke, Camilla Moses, Sabina Koszo, Erin Schofer and Paulina Muler.
This was a project I worked on that looked at re-vitalizing the laneways in Brisbane: One as underused and undervalued as Fish Lane. The proposal included a makeshift meeting place and a swap meet - for sharing information and spreading culture as well as changing the values centered in and around our connection to designed things.
This was a really exciting project that propelled me in the direction of community projects. It became apparent to me that youth homelessness in Australia, while it may not be as recognised, makes up nearly 50% of those sleeping rough on the streets. In Brisbane alone this means nearly 2,320 homeless youths sleep out each night. This shelter was designed to be discrete and secure for the youths of Brisbane - made entirely out of recycled PVC billboards.

A Re-Directive Practitioner
I am a J.Space design practitioner with a strong interest in communities: How they function, how they have changed and their place in the world as it exists today. The types of projects I work on are community based with a strong emphasis on re-directing unsustainable practices and building the framework for long term sustaining behaviours. The extent of my work aims to enhance community engagement, participation, inclusion and empowerment. Each project is approached from within the community to ensure the best result for each locality, and is directive of the environmental, economic and social challenges we face. To get an idea of the type of work I do, some of my works are presented below.
It’s my aim to connect with others from many walks of life who believe in the collective power of people and their abilities to transform communities: This could be through innovative designs, local businesses, the sharing of knowledge and experience and many more.
WHAT I CAN BRING TO COLLABORATION:
- Ability to listen and learn
- Ability to critique and question the status quo
- Design Perspective and expertise
- Active Communication
- Teamwork and leadership
